Anthrax Cancels July Dates in Europe, including Qstock. Qstock Staff Working to Confirm a Replacement for Friday
Unfortunately, we were just informed that thrash legends Anthrax regretfully cancelled the seven European dates from July 22 to July 30 due to the departure of vocalist Dan Nelson from the band. The official news release is on the band website http://anthrax.com/NFWS/
We are deeply sorry about such bad news this close to the festival. Despite the tight schedule, we are working to sign a solid replacement for Friday night.

Show Times and Program for Qstock 2009 Confirmed!
Show times for Qstock 2009 have been confirmed and the program for the festival has been finalized. The latest additions for the program are The Capital Beat, The Black League, Viisikko, Cheek, Ajattara, Pete Parkkonen, Tuomari Nurmio, Op:l Bastards and Anna Puu. The hostess for this year’s Qstock is music journalist and media personality Heta Hyttinen.
Pimp My Qstock-shirt finalists Chosen!
From all the wonderful entries in the contest, the judges of Pimp My Qstock-shirt Contest chose Maria Niinimaa’s, Hanne Riestola’s, Maria Sauvola’s and Maria Virrantalo’s creations as the finalists.
Go vote for the best tuned shirt at One Way (Stockmann Oulu) until July 18. Every voter will participate in the drawing of a two-day pass to Qstock 2009.

Real Deal Beach Party blasting at the beach!
As a result of the area changes to this year’s Qstock, the Kuusisaari beach will come alive in a completely new way in Qstock 2009. An old favorite, Real Deal Beach Party continues its restless ways in Qstock again this year, but this time it takes over the whole beach! Dance music with DJs, from rap to techno and reggae, not forgetting some high quality live artists, either. The beach will pulse with life throughout the weekend.
Confirmed artists at the beach so far: Raappana, Pouta Sound, Kemmuru, Stig Dogg, Stepa, DJ J-Honey, DJ Chappa, DJ Chicago-Pekka and DJ Teppo Mono & Morley Duo. In addition to dancing, there will be spectacular sideshows at the beach, too. Leave your dance shoes home and bring your beach gear!
Wacken Metal Battle Qualifying rounds complete!
After two rounds of qualifications, the Wacken Metal Battle final hosted by Qstock will feature four bands:
- Autere
- Backstabbing Bastard
- Evil Angel
- Napoleon Skullfukk

The Judges at Qstock will choose the Finnish representative to Wacken Open Air –festival in Germany. The Finnish representative will compete against bands from 20 other countries in this year’s Wacken Metal Battle. The winners will get a record deal with Wackenrecords and a Mapex Meridian Maple Go drum set!
Gigwish, let your voice be heard!
Qstock has also joined Gigwish, a new cooperative network. Gigwish offers a service with which you can send text messages to vote which bands you would like to see and hear at selected events. The votes cast will offer valuable information regarding event planning to event organizers. Check the service here.
QSTOCK 2008 PHOTOS ON DISPLAY AT PSK KAUPUNNI
While waiting for this year’s festival, why not pay PSK Kaupunni –bar a visit to reminisce about the good times of last year’s festival. The walls of the bar now feature photos of fans and artists in Qstock 2008. The exhibition is on display until the end of June.
The exhibition has been arranged in cooperation with Valokuvaamo Palovaara, and the featured photographers are Jukka Palovaara, Pekka Palovaara and Maiju Torvinen.

More Bands Confirmed for Qstock 2009!
The latest foreign additions to the Qstock 2009 program are speed/thrash metal legends ANTHRAX (USA) and ground-breaking Major Parkinson (NOR). The list of Finnish bands at the festival was also complemented by a number of names: Haloo Helsinki, Profane Omen, Stam1na, Poisonblack, Kotiteollisuus, Maj Karma, Radiopuhelimet, Tuomas Henrikin Jeesuksen Kristuksen Bändi, and Kauko Röyhkä & Rättö & Lehtisalo.
More bands from both abroad and Finland will be announced soon.

TICKET SALES TO QSTOCK STARTED!
Ticket sales to Qstock 2009 have started. Tickets are available through Lippupalvelu (Ticket Service Finland), and Levykauppa Äx record store in Oulu.
One-day tickets for Friday cost 39 euros in advance and 45 euros at the gate, tickets for Saturday cost 43 euros in advance and 50 euros at the gate. Two-day passes cost 69 euros in advance and 75 euros at the gate.
As usual, there are some perks for the first ticket buyers: the first 300 who buy their two-day passes from Levykauppa Äx in Oulu get a free movie ticket that entitles for a free admission to any movie in all Finnkino theaters.
The negotiations for more Qstock 2009 artists are going on strong, and we will announce new signings soon!
Rockpolis stage at Qstock again!
The city of Oulu Centre for Youth Affairs will once again set up the Rockpolis stage at Qstock. Showcasing local music talent, the Rockpolis stage offers a wonderful opportunity for approximately ten local artists to demonstrate their talent in front of the festival crowd. When choosing the artists for the stage, a contemporary sound and an uncompromising and goal-oriented attitude have been among the more important criteria.
The first commitments for the Rockpolis stage are Murena, a heavily meandering rock quartet; Lissut, a bubbly girl duet; Grand Manoeuvre, a stylish pop group; Frontlines, a groove metal-grinding group; Hebosagil, a genre categorization-defying extreme phenomenon; Kuuradio, a poppish jazz group; Sicknote, a band rocking the blues and metal strings; and Toni Kandelin, an artist combining music and performance art.

HEAVEN AND HELL to QSTOCK !
The legendary Heaven and Hell is the first foreign band confirmed for Qstock 2009. The line-up of the band is exactly the same as it was when they were the legendary Black Sabbath in 1980-1982 and 1992.
Heaven And Hell are releasing their first studio album since the Black Sabbath days this spring and they will tour the biggest festivals in Europe after that. The American-British line-up consists of lead vocalist Ronnie James Dio, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Vinny Appice.
Other confirmed foreign artists for Qstock 2009 are Elephant9, the Norwegian group combining jazz, progressive rock and classic rock in a psychedelic mix, and Pain, an industrial metal group from Sweden.
The Finnish artists confirmed for the festival include CMX, Apulanta, Happoradio, Amorphis, The Rasmus, Egotrippi, Pintandwefall, Maija Vilkkumaa, PMMP, Asa & Jätkätjatkät, and Regina. The program will be complemented by a number of both foreign and Finnish bands, so stay tuned on our website.
Wacken Metal Battle 2009 to have qualification rounds
A regular feature of Qstock for a number of years, Wacken Metal Battle is a contest for metal bands. The winner of the contest will get an opportunity to play a show at the Wacken festival in Germany. Wacken is the world's largest metal festival. The quality of the final Battle hosted by Qstock 2009 will be further improved as a result of having qualification rounds for the first time this year. The winners of the qualification rounds will then take the Battle stage at Qstock. 45 Special in Oulu will host one of the qualification rounds on May 22nd, and other dates and locations will be announced later.
